From the anthology edited by Gardner Dozois, published by St. Martin's Press, 1988.

This was originally painted in 1979, one of my very first astronomical paintings, of Uranus, seen from the ice moon Miranda.

Uranus is tilted with it's axis of rotation facing the sun, and, has an odd placed magnetic field. The giant gas planet also has a ring.

On a field trip to Hermosa Beach, when I was a student at Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA), I had brought the art along in my portfolio case, and lost it there.

18 months later, the police called, and I recovered it, having been in a warehouse most of the time.

In 1988, it was chosen as the cover for the 5th annual anthology of The Year's Best Science Fiction, and I believe it (the anthology) still goes on today...
