In 1990, I painted this astronomical art, based on some fascinating new information coming from Voyager 2.

Triton is Neptune's largest moon, where pools of liquid and frozen methane thaw at -390 degrees F.

Plumes of Nitrogen vapor mixed with dark particulate explode through the warming ice crust, where it was trapped under the ice in winter and warmed in spring by the sun's warmth. The ice plumes may even create rainbows!
